As a professor, Tom Loonen is an experienced teacher. Interaction and involvement of students is his motto. He teaches the subjects ‘Compliance’, ‘Laws and regulations’ (Financial Supervision Act (Wft) and the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act (Wet ter voorkoming van witwassen en financieren van terrorisme – Wwft) and ‘integrity and ethics’ at the VU University . He does this in the courses ‘Risk management in financial institutions ‘, ‘Investment Management’, ‘Compliance & Integrity management’ and ‘KYC expert’.

Futhermore, Tom teaches Governance at the Master in International Finance (MiF) of the University of Amsterdam and he teaches the course ‘Duty of care’ at Nyenrode University.
